Hollywood Fades, 2005
Hollywood Fades is a series of landscape paintings proposing an aesthetic of reproduced romanticism. In each painting, I’ve reprocessed a generic postcard image of the iconic Hollywood landscape through filters of romantic painting convention: tumultuous and grandiose skies, dramatic lighting and moody atmosphere. The resulting expressive effect is one of layered detachment, a deconstructed “grand gesture” achieved through various printed means and through a deliberate removal of the hand-authored mark.
